Parenting Post: INSIGHTS FROM MY 5YO SON

A convo with my 5 yo son about my 3yod as we were getting ready to leave… “J, help your sister put on her clothes. She wants you to do it today, not me.”

Followed by no response. So, big picture-why time. “Do you know why I think she prefers your help some times? Because she trusts you more in a way. In her life, you have been kid-kind to, (it’s also because we stop him from pouncing on her, lol), and available for her in some ways than Mommy has.” He responds, “You’re right! It’s because I am like a cat! I still remember how to be a child in a child’s world. I have no thoughts and I don’t keep in my feelings until I lose my temper.”

I said, “You’re right! That has happened before and you are more like a cat and more in a child’s world!”

He then enthusiastically helped her put her Spider-woman costume on while dressed as batman and we celebrated teamwork well-done. ^_^
